This beautiful large Japanese Bronze Koro/Incense Burner with cover features standing Samurai warriors facing a seated figure on a finely cast intricate patterned background. The reverse shows two sparrows among exotic foliage. The bottom of the main bulbous section is signed “Shokaken Kore Chu” and is set with a pair of dragon handles. The container is supported by five mythological turtles forming the legs. The plinth contains images of 3 dead insects while the cover is topped by a standing hunter and hound dog. The koro weighs 25.5 pounds, measures 26 inches tall including the cover, and 15 inches from handle to handle. There is a pinhead size hole in the main body and an uneven section of the cover’s rim. One handle has some splitting and the other handle probably taken off and glued back with the original piece. Except for the above issues this bronze koro / incense burner is in overall good antique condition.
